Lawo - Radio 47 - IP

Theirs has played a fundamental role in the IP infrastructure of Radio 47, a station located in Nairobi (Kenya) that stands as the “first hybrid broadcasting facility” with automation elements in Africa.

Radio 47's new facilities integrate radio, television, live broadcast and remote production into a unified and flexible system, using technology from manufacturers such as Theirs (Germany), MultiCam Systems (France), AVT Audio Video Technologies (Germany), Voiceware, Cleanfeed, Genelec, Telos Alliance, PTZ Optics y OptiSign, among others. The central element of this deployment is an all-IP broadcast infrastructure based on Crystal broadcast consoles from Theirs, the Power Core DSP engine and Ravenna/AES67 based audio over IP networking.

Lawo - Radio 47 - IPThe new workflow allows a remote control and monitoring of all broadcast operations, simplifying daily production and allowing greater flexibility for remote and hybrid teams. It does this through tools such as integrated software Visit the VisTool GUI, which provides customizable touchscreen interfaces for control and visualization of sources, meters and routing, helping operators stay focused and efficient even in complex, multi-platform productions.

Each of the three new Radio 47 studios has a console Theirs crystal, chosen for its compact format, intuitive handling and perfect integration with IP workflows. The consoles are networked to a Power Core Lawo's central hub, a high-density modular IP I/O and mixing engine capable of managing extensive audio routing, DSP processing and multiple studio operations from a single location.

Lawo - Radio 47 - IPThe Power Core is equipped with cards E/S modular that support analog formats, AES3, Dante and MADI, which allows its compatibility with both old and latest generation equipment. This flexibility was key to allowing Cape Media Future-proof your investment while still accommodating external sources and mobile unit workflows. The system's modular design also allows for easy expansion and remote integration, whether for regional studio sources, mobile devices, or external collaborators.

All the studios, editing rooms and checkpoints are connected via an AES67-compliant IP backbone, with full support for Ravenna networks. This standards-based infrastructure enables real-time, lossless audio transmission, as well as complete operational freedom- Any signal, phone call or stream can be directed to any point in the facility instantly, without the need for physical re-pairing or manual configuration.

The new facilities are already allowing Radio 47 to expand its editorial and creative offering, encompassing new processes such as the creation of multilingual podcasts, simultaneous broadcasting on online platforms or the management of live calls and guests in the studio with a minimum preparation time.
