V Studios (France Télévisions) transitions to virtual production with Brompton and Absen
France.tv Studio, production subsidiary of France Televisions, has improved the production capabilities of its V Studios virtual sets with the installation of virtual production technology based on LED panels from Roll call or the 4K Tessera SX40 processors from Brompton.
Originally created by Les Tontons Truqueurs (LTT), the studio became part of France.tv Studio when France Televisions acquired the company. In 2024, as explained Pierre-Marie Boyé, production director at LTT, the decision was made to complement the green screens with a small virtual production studio, which has already been used for formats such as fiction series, documentaries and advertisements.
The studio is built around a configuration XR (Extended Reality) composed of four LED walls of Missing the Polaris 2.5 Pro V10, with a refresh rate of 7680, powered by three processors LED Brompton 4K Tessera SX4, which handle functions such as “pixel-perfect” screen calibration, camera synchronization, and advanced color space management. The main screen measures 10m by 4m, flanked by two movable side panels (4m by 3m) and a large adjustable roof measuring 8m by 4m. This configuration allows you to shoot in 3D in real time, perform motion capture and even sequences with vehicles, all in a controlled environment.
The setup also includes two tracking solutions: a system StarTracker of Mon-Sys and a system Row 20-camera Vero, enabling precise motion capture and object tracking. With the addition of three GPU-powered APY render nodes Nvidia A6000 ADA Lovelace, the studio provides high-performance rendering, facilitating a smooth, real-time production process.
The France.tv Studio team has praised the LED processing of Brompton for its ability to solve specific challenges of fiction productions. With Brompton, we have found our rhythm. The Tessera software's intuitive interface and console-like grading functions give us the precision we need. It is a real advantage when we work with demanding fiction content, in which every detail matters,” says Boyé.
Among the most recent projects in which V Studios has collaborated are the France.tv Studio series Such a Big Sun, The Missing from the Station, a new Disney+ series, and A priori, produced by Amsto. Additionally, the studio is collaborating on several short films, such as Salama Tracks by Naoile Jouira, y The Last Night of the Butterfly, by Nadja Anane. AND
