Tiffen designs the Steadicam Volt-3 electronic stabilizer with three stabilization axes
Tiffen presents a new improvement to its Steadicam Volt range with the introduction of Volt-3, a stabilizer that offers three fully adjustable axes: rotation, tilt, and pan for the Steadicam M2 and M1.
With its new advanced pan axis control with simulated inertia and resistance, the Volt 3 offers an intuitive, ultra-precise feel, ready to enhance every movement a Steadicam operator makes. With its next-generation technology, operators can achieve higher quality camera movements, with faster setup times, greater range of motion and a host of other advantages over previous electronic gimbal systems.
The extensive list of features starts with Instant On. Volt-3 startup is integral to the system, regardless of gimbal position. Then the function level calibration keeps the system in neutral balance when stopping and cornering. Furthermore, the horizons remain level or, if the shot requires an unconventional "level", the system can maintain independent horizons for high or low modes. The Volt-3's pan, pitch, roll damping, inertia and dynamic braking respond to the operator's control of the image under various operating conditions. Stress-free sticky mode is available on the tilt axis. And, if desired, conventional operation is reactivated with the push of a button.
Weighing only 2.7 kilos, Volt-3 is available for the Steeadycam M2 and M1, integrating perfectly into the normal position of the gimbal.
Operators familiar with the original Volt will be interested in the new control center, or "Pot Box," that the Volt-3 adds to the platform. With 4 user-selectable dials, control pan, tilt, roll and damping force. Additionally, there's a button to pause the Volt, while another activates a submenu for custom settings. Three LED indicators and a digital display provide menu and accurate system information. Importantly, by using the submenu, operators gain new control of panning inertia and resistance, dramatically changing the behavior of the sled to suit any shooting requirement. Additional control is at your fingertips via two switchable buttons mounted on the gimbal that allow access to Sticky/Normal settings and presets.
