The Associated Press (AP) migrates its global audiovisual content editing platform to DaVinci Resolve Studio, post-production software from Blackmagic Design.

AP produces audiovisual material in more than 100 countries, distributing content every day to thousands of stations, publishers and digital platforms. To support this enormous creation of audiovisual content, Blackmagic has custom designed a complex implementation which includes several hundred licenses that support the agency's critical information operations, which span more than 1500 pieces daily.

Blackmagic Design - DaVinci Resolve - AP - The Associated PressThe development has not only included extensive adaptation to the work dynamics of Associated Press, but also incorporates new functions of DaVinci Resolve Studio designed specifically for breaking news coverage. One of the most notable is the possibility of editing audiovisual material while recording continues, allowing journalists to start working with the live footage directly from the the AP MAM system, without having to wait for the file transfer to complete. In this way, the recorded material can be edited and distributed within seconds of arrival.

AP also uses the DaVinci Resolve Studio cloud-based system for the distribution of presets and graphics, which includes templates, project settings, and export parameters. This eliminates the need for manual downloads and ensures consistency of visual identity and production standards across agency offices. Likewise, the software has been integrated with the AP MAM system to carry out flexible cloud rendering. By distributing this task among different nodes in the cloud, AP can automatically increase its capacity during important news events and reduce it when demand drops. This reduces the dependency on local rendering by journalists and editors, keeping workstations free for creative tasks and optimizing infrastructure costs.

The transition has included a comprehensive training program intended for AP journalists and correspondents, whose main objective is to tell stories rather than perform technical editing tasks. The AP superusers they worked together with certified DaVinci Resolve trainers to develop an internal library of on-demand tutorials, allowing staff to learn at their own pace and ensuring sustained knowledge transfer.
