'City of Shadows' (Netflix), filmed on Mediapro's virtual production set in Barcelona

Netflix 'City of Shadows' premieres worldwide (Arcadia Motion Pictures), series whose driving scenes have been captured on the virtual production set of Mediapro Group in Barcelona.

All plans car camera of this police series, directed by Jorge Torregrossa, have been filmed in the heart of Barcelona: the space 22@ of the Catalan media group. The installation, in the words of the company, has facilitated the direction of actors and the work of the cast by granting “absolute control” of all the variables of filming with moving vehicles on a set.

The study has 500m2 and has an LED screen 210 m2 with features like 1700 nits, PQR HDR a 10bit, and an 1.9mm pitch pixel which allows scenes to be filmed with 360º backgrounds projected on the LED. The technology used offers a high refresh rate and image stability, ideal for filming scenes with low light, such as in this action series in which different scenes and dialogues inside cars.

The team of Mediapro Group and that of Netflix have worked together to continue improving the workflows of this type of environments by consolidating a calibration process with the tool OpenVPCal. This is the first successfully carried out through SDI 12G, which has allowed us to achieve more realistic colors and has ensured image quality in the series.

Virtual production is one of the strategic business lines of the group that, in addition to Barcelona, ​​has sets in Madrid, Miami, New York and Uruguay.
