Mediapro begins production for Netflix and HBO

'The New Pope' by Paolo Sorrentino will soon begin production for HBO and 'Fe de etarras' by Borja Cobeaga begins filming for Netflix.

Mediapro has decided to strengthen its presence in the US as part of its objective to grow in the audiovisual content business. Two large Mediapro projects aimed at two large international content platforms, HBO and Netflix, begin their journey these days. This is the new series by Paolo Sorrentino, winner of an Oscar, and the filming of the film by Spanish director Borja Cobeaga.

The New Pope, nueva serie del creador de la película, también coproducida por Mediapro, iniciará su producción a finales del próximo año en Italia. Paolo Sorrentino y Umberto Contarello están trabajando en el guion de la que será la segunda serie de Sorrentino, que estará ambientada en el mundo del papado contemporáneo.

Esta producción conjunta de Sky y HBO estará producida por Lorenzo Mieli y Mario Gianani por Wildside en coproducción con Mediapro. FremantleMedia International será la responsable de la distribución internacional.

Faith of ETA

Netflix continúa apostando fuerte por las producciones europeas y ha anunciado el inicio del rodaje de su segunda película original española, Faith of ETA. Mediapro will produce the film that will soon be released simultaneously in the 190 countries where Netflix operates.

The film will be directed by Borja Cobeaga (Negotiator, No controls), written by himself together with Diego San José (Eight Basque surnames, Eight Catalan surnames) and starring Javier Cámara, Julián López, Miren Ibarguren and Gorka Otxoa, with the special collaboration of Tina Sáinz and Ramón Barea.

The action takes place in the hot summer of 2010 in a small Spanish provincial capital. A peculiar and dysfunctional commando formed by a veteran who is eager to prove that he is not a coward (Javier Cámara), a couple whose commitment depends on the continuity of the band (Miren Ibarguren and Gorka Otxoa) and a man from La Mancha who believes that joining the commando will make him feel as if he were Chuck Norris (Julián López) barricade themselves in an apartment waiting to receive a call, which never seems to come, to take action. Meanwhile, the Spanish team sweeps the World Cup in South Africa and the entire country celebrates around them...
