Eduardo Casanova teams up with Morena Films for 'El gran cabrón'

'The Big Cabrón' will be Eduardo Casanova's next project together with Morena Films, which will aim for European co-financing after having been one of the 35 titles chosen to be part of the Berlinale co-production market, which will take place between February 12 and 18.

Casanova returns to the framework of the Berlinale after passing through the Festival in 2017 with skins, film presented in the Panorama section. On this occasion, he arrives at Berlinale Co-Production Market (EFM), sponsored by the producer Maria Soler, responsible for titles such as Miss Coal (Agustina Macri) or To an island of you (Alexis Morante), titles committed to social struggle and LGBTQ+ values.

In the words of Casanova, screenwriter and director of the film: “The big bastard It has been in the making for many years and, without a doubt, this is the ideal social and personal moment to launch it. It is a project that could only be developed with a production company with which it shared exactly the same creative language, and that is something that has happened to me with Maria Soler and Morena Films." He Berlinale Co-Production Market aims to present a careful selection of film projects with high artistic and international potential to strategic partners, in order to promote their co-production and financing, as well as facilitate their positioning in the global market. The presence of The big bastard It will be another milestone in the journey of Casanova by film festivals around the globe: He debuted in the feature film with Skins, premiered at the Berlin Festival and selected at the Tokyo and San Sebastián festivals; obtaining numerous nominations for the Goya Awards. His second feature film, The mercy, presented in Karlovy Vary and awarded at festivals such as Austin, Fantasia and BIFAN, reinforced its position as one of the most innovative voices in European cinema. His most recent project has been the miniseries Silence, presented at the Locarno, Austin and Sitges festivals, nominated for the Feroz Arrebato Fiction Prize, and recently released as an original on Movistar+.
