71 films, 52 series and 410 advertisements: Madrid as a set, in 2025

Madrid Film Office, audiovisual office of the Madrid City Council attached to the Delegated Area of Tourism, compiles the notable activity of filming in the Spanish capital during 2025: 71 films, 52 series (50 fiction and 2 docuseries) and more than 410 advertisements.

Among the titles filmed, the American one stands out Day Drinker, of Marc Webb, starring Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp; the sequel to the British thriller The Postcard Killer, directed by Renny Harlin, and the Canadian Journey to You by Terry Ingram, as well as new projects by Pedro Almodovar, which is filming again in Madrid with Bitter Christmas, y The Javis, which adapt an unfinished work by Federico García Lorca in The black ball.

At least eleven of the films were international co-productions. The usual collaboration with Latin America is maintained with Ash in the mouth, by actor and director Diego Luna, and the sequel to Christmas in your hands, by Joaquín Mazón, both with Mexico, or Reversion from Jacob Santana, with the Dominican Republic, and a man on a bridge by David Martín de los Santos, with Peru. Within Europe, the co-production with France stands out, as The loved one by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Dinner by Manuel Gómez Pereira; with Belgium, as It's always winter by David Trueba and I will not die of love of Marta Matute, and with Portugal, Pioneers: the movie by Marta Díaz and a head on the wall by Manuel Manrique.

The number of fiction feature films in 2025 far exceeds 47 films shot in 2022, the best data collected to date since the existence of the office.

In this context, the Councilor for Tourism of the Madrid City Council, Almudena Maíllo, has highlighted the relevance of the audiovisual cultural industry for the city "due to its economic impact and its ability to generate employment." Maíllo highlighted that “each filming reinforces the image of Madrid as an attractive city with enormous professional and creative talent.”

Series filming during 2025 in Madrid

Madrid also maintains its position as prominent center for the production of fiction series, with a varied presence of international productions, demonstrating the city's growing interest in other markets. The city has hosted, among others, the filming of a new season of the American series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (AMC).

Madrid Film Office: a total of 4,100 filming attendances and 537 projects

The Madrid City Council processed 11,001 requests for filming on public roads through the Filming Authorization Bureau of the Environment and Mobility Government Area. In total, the city welcomed more than 1,025 projects filmed with public road occupation permits in the city, a figure similar to last year. To these we must add all the smaller projects that have been filmed in the city exclusively through Communicated Act permits, which do not imply reservation and exclusive occupation of public space, and which account for around 66% of the total applications processed.

Many of these projects have had the support of the Madrid Film Office in terms of location search, guidance and support in the management of filming permits, coordination and mediation between different organizations and companies, both public and private. During 2025, The office offered more than 4,115 specific assistance and supported more than 537 different projects in their filming in Madrid. This supposes a increase of almost 7% compared to the assistance offered in 2024, which demonstrates the high level of production that is being developed in the city and the growing trust that the audiovisual sector places in the municipal service. Of the projects supported in 2025, 53 were international and 484 national.

On the other hand, during 2025, Madrid Film Office participated in 16 festivals, markets and forums with the aim of enhancing the visibility of the city as a filming scene and supporting the promotion and development of the Madrid audiovisual industry. Among them, international events stand out such as European Film Market within the Berlin International Film Festival (Germany), the Film Market within the Cannes Festival (France) and Focus held in London (United Kingdom).

At the national level, it is necessary to point out the Malaga Festival, Shooting Locations Marketplace of Valladolid and the San Sebastian International Film Festival, where the City Council and the Community of Madrid organized for the fourth year the event “Something is cooking in Madrid” in which the opportunities that Madrid and its region offer to the audiovisual industry were announced. Added to these are also events focused on the promotion of screen tourism, such as FEATURES Screen y SET Congress en Bilbao.

Additionally, the office organized or sponsored 15 events, forums and meeting spaces in Madrid in order to promote the creative and business development of the sector in the city. In this sense, the sponsorship of the famous Platinum Awards, which brought together in the city the creators, producers and the most prominent stars of Ibero-American audiovisuals, and the foro Iberseries & Platino Industria, an unmissable event for audiovisuals in Spanish and Portuguese, in which the office organized various talks and a session to present Madrid projects within the framework of the meeting. The office also collaborated with the second edition of ECAM FORUM, international co-production forum in Madrid, within which it sponsored two awards for short films and feature films in development. Other events were AEC Microsalon, Iris Awards, Talent Awards, ANIMATE o Notodo film festival.
