A sound fiction, meetings and a concert, in the program of activities for the Goya 2026 in Barcelona
The Film Academy has confirmed an ambitious program of activities that will reinforce the historical link between Barcelona and cinema. Everything, in order to warm up the engines for the gala celebration of the 40th edition of the Goya Awards, which will take place on Saturday, February 28.
Among the initiatives, a great concert by the Barcelona Municipal Music Band in the Auditorium on February 22. With actress Victoria Luengo as master of ceremonies, the repertoire will be a tour of musical works recognized by the Academy throughout the history of the awards. The concert is curated by Juan Carlos Cuello and Vanessa Garde together with maestro José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana.
Among the new features of the program, the Academy offers live the sound fiction from the movie Rowing in the wind, directed by Gonzalo Suárez, Goya de Honor 2026. The Palau de la Música will host this activity with which the institution, Radio Nacional de España and the Generalitat de Catalunya will pay tribute to the filmmaker, who began his career in Barcelona. This event will be held on February 26, which will feature performances by Miki Esparbé, Fernando Cayo and Víctor Clavijo, among others. Prior to this recording, the filmmaker will also hold a meeting with the public at the Palau de la Música Catalana.
The Film Academy will also promote a urban exhibition large format located in Les Glòries, which traces the presence of talent linked to Catalonia throughout the history of the Goya Awards. Agustí Villaronga, Anna Castillo, Bigas Luna, Isabel Coixet, J. A. Bayona, Candela Peña, Eduard Fernández, Carla Simón, Carlos Marqués-Marcet, Carme Elías, Eduard Sola, Clara Segura, David Verdaguer and Julieta Serrano, are just some of the professionals who star in this exhibition with more than 60 images, which can be visited until March 1.
Besides, seven monumental sculptures by Goya They will be located in different parts of the city - in the Fòrum (CCIB), Les Glòries park; the Gardens of Gràcia; Fabra i Coats; Portal de la Pau, in Barceloneta; Sant Jaume Square; and at the MNAC (National Museum of Art of Catalonia). The installation will remain on the streets of Barcelona from February 10 to March 1. And, of course, from February 16 to 28, an official photocall will be set up in the Patio of the City Hall, where Barcelona residents and visitors can come to take photos with a replica of the statuette.
Screenings of the nominees for the Goya 2026
The core of the program is made up of the projections of the películas nominadas y los encuentros con sus equipos artísticos, que tendrán lugar en espacios emblemáticos como el Born. Museu d’Historia de Barcelona, Filmoteca de Catalunya, Gatsby, la Fundació Mies van der Rohe, la SGAE, Cinemes Verdi o el Palau de la Música. Hay programados encuentros de nominadas y nominados en las categorías de Mejor Dirección, Mejor Actriz Protagonista, Mejor Película Iberoamericana, Mejor Dirección Novel y Mejor Dirección de Arte y Mejor Canción Original.
En estas actividades participarán nombres como Oliver Laxe, Carla Simón, Alba Flores, Álvaro Cervantes, Nora Navas, Leiva, Patricia Lopez Arnaiz, Jose Mari Goenaga, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Manuel Gómez Pereira, Ángela Cervantes, Víctor Manuel y Oriol Maymó. To them will be added Susan Sarandon, Goya Internacional 2026. The American actress and producer, winner of an Oscar Award, will hold a meeting with the public on February 27, at 1:00 p.m.
Education around cinema
The educational and social vocation is another of the program's axes. The program also includes specific activities with women deprived of liberty at the Wad-Ras Penitentiary Center, where the actress and producer, Alba Flores, will hold a meeting with them after the screening of Flowers for Antonio, on February 13.
Furthermore, the filmmaker Guillermo Galoe, director of City without sleep, will hold a meeting with the participants of the Horagai project. This is a Film Training project for young people supervised by the Generalitat of Catalonia, aged 14 to 18, who are offered educational and training support in their transition to adulthood and which puts them in contact with other groups.
Finally, the Academy, in collaboration with Barcelona City Council and the Catalan Cinema Academy, organizes sessions for kindergarten, primary and secondary school students with the screenings of the nominated films Barracuda's Treasure, Olivia and the invisible earthquake y Deaf. The initiative combines the screening of nominated films with meetings with their creators.
