ArtSound FM: from “in-house built” consoles to professional DHD SX2 and TX2 equipment
Two SX2 and one TX2 audio consoles DHD they structure the renewal of the Australian studies ArtSound FM, a radio focused on musical content that supports the cultural efforts of the Australian organization of the same name.
Founded in 1983, the organization ArtSound disseminates and promotes the entire spectrum of performing and visual arts, including literature, theater, cinema, exhibitions and concerts. Since his FM, the station promotes a wide range of musical content, giving great support to both composers as emerging performers.
Chris Diacon, vice president and director of technology, decided to undertake the process of renovating two of its studios purely out of technological obsolescence and in after professionalization. Both consoles SX2, like the TX2, replace tables that were "built in-house" in 2005: "They were chosen for both their high signal quality and ease of control, allowing presenters to broadcast live with complete confidence. The compact dimensions of the consoles were a determining factor, leaving plenty of free space on the desk for auxiliary items, such as script notes. The solidity of the construction was essential, as we broadcast 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The configuration versatility and modular construction of the DHD mixers gives us the freedom to future-proof the system if necessary to meet changing workflow demands.”
The upgrade project is being carried out in two phases to ensure that ArtSound can maintain its operation. The phase 1 has already been completed, with a first studio that has a studio console 10-fader SX2 DHD connected to a core HD XS3. Phase 2 will focus on equipping a second studio with a 10-fader SX2 console and a core XS3. Likewise, a console has already been integrated in a third location DHD TX2 ultra-compact, in addition to applications Views y Assist of DHD. Each of the computers is interconnected with each other through a network Dante (Audinate).
The DHD SX2 console is based on a central module of four faders and expansion modules six faders. Each module incorporates a 10.1 inch multi-touch screen which shows parameters of configuration y operation, such as the measurement of volume and the talkback with other DHD mixers. On the other hand, the TX2 It is the most compact console in the DHD range. With dimensions of only 256 x 58 x 27, it also incorporates a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen. A single network cable of up to 100 meters long transmits all audio and control signals, plus power, between the TX2 and an IP core DHD.
