Dolby reach an agreement with TV Azteca to bring Dolby Atmos to open television in Mexico through the standard ATSC 1.0, which is one of the first global forays of expanded audio into DTV broadcasts.

Pedro Manuel Carmona Ortiz, TV CTO Azteca, consider that this “technological milestone"represents a"turning point in the industry". The project comes after an extensive collaboration between Dolby and Mexican television; a "strategic and lasting" alliance that has been supported by the innovation as an engine of technological evolution.” The announcement was made in Las Vegas, within the framework of NAB 2026.

TV Azteca - Dolby AtmosIn the process of implementation has also played a key role Imagine Communications, a company that provides the base infrastructure for emissions TV Azteca, as well as Atem, a firm specialized in video compression and distribution solutions that “has given us the necessary support to make solid progress in this initiative,” says Carmona.

The advance will take on special relevance in live sporting events. Pankaj Kedia, VP Americas of the area commercial partnerships from Dolby Laboratories, points out in this regard: "Imagine watching a game from your living room and hearing where each shout from the stands, the hit of the ball and the voice of the narrator moving around you comes from. That is what Dolby Atmos makes possible today in Mexico."
