The Panasonic format, adopted by the Italian Broadcasts for National Sports EDP teams, also promoting migration to 16: 9.

mediasetThe Italian giant Mediaset has signed an agreement with Panasonic Professional Broadcast It Systems (PBits) for the adoption of the P2 format for all national sports ENG teams and for their migration to broadcast in 16: 9 format. The choice of the P2 format is an important step towards a system capable of recording and managing high definition content, a requirement that the Italian group expects it to increase in the coming years. The agreement establishes an initial game of handcraft AG-HVX201E P2 and several portable recording and viewing units of P2 Gear AG-HPG20E cards, which will allow the immediate use of P2 technology in the SPORT ENG productions.

Antonio Vecchio, National Filming Coordinator of Mediaset in Italy, has commented, on the other hand, that this agreement was not a “precipitous decision, since we have been carrying out P2 technology tests during the last two years, even using them for the production of the regularly issued programs. Until today, we have worked mainly with external production companies and freelances: the change to P2 cameras of Mediaset has generated a great interest”.

Cassanmagnago adds that one of the keys to which Mediaset has opted for Panasonic is the transition time, and its possibility of allowing users to work in 16: 9 both in SD and HD, with the possibility of recording in tapes or cards. For his part, the Director General of Panasonic Pbits Italy, Salvatore Palillo, has indicated that “the decision made by Mediaset is a great achievement for Panasonic. The fact that a company like Mediaset, so focused on technological innovation and the quality of investment, has chosen the P2 format is an important recognition of our constant product quality. And it also does a long time to prove that the strategic line that Panasonic has chosen For its solid state formats more than five years ago it is a winning and projection idea. ”

panasonic_hvx201eThe initial delivery of Panasonic cameras will include portable cameras AG-HVX201E that will allow users to work with standard DV tapes as well as in SD and HD, through P2 cards. The AG-HVX201E portable cameras will be delivered to all ENG production centers for Mediaset sports, although the agreement between Mediaset and Panasonic goes beyond the cameras. Each regional center will be equipped with a portable recording and viewing unit P2 Gear AG-HPG20E cards for use in mobile units and production centers, allowing them to reproduce and record digital content on P2 cards. A decision backed by the flexibility of the new AG-HPG20E, capable of reproducing and recording from DVCPRO formats to AVC-TERRA, directly from an HD-SDI entry.
