At IBC'09, the Ericson subsidiary will present two important improvements for digital networks, especially cable networks, that allow, among other possibilities, to offer video on demand in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC on any platform or device, whether on a television, a PC or a mobile phone.

Tandberg

Tandberg Television now adds two important improvements to its portfolio of solutions for the cable industry. One of them is a back office device that speeds up the distribution of multi-platform and multi-device audiovisual content designed to expand on-demand services, helping to monetize the operator's business model and improving the relationship with the subscriber. New consumer behaviors, coupled with widespread broadband everywhere and on multiple devices, while a boom in video content is occurring, represent significant opportunities for cable operators seeking to offer a more personalized television experience integrated across all three screens of TV, PC and mobile. Major challenges in cable infrastructure include difficulty reusing subscriber management and billing systems, reusing content distribution and asset management systems, and enabling new services to subscribers.

In line with this novelty from Tandberg, its OpenStream digital services platform now allows it to offer new multi-device services with comprehensive video-on-demand support on both MPEG-2 and the new MPEG-4 AVC decoders. This solution would allow the subscriber functions such as pausing at any time watching a movie on their home television and continuing it minutes later on their laptop or mobile phone. Thanks to the improvements introduced in the OpenStream platform, which is already used by numerous cable platforms around the world, the system is now capable of recognizing the device the client is accessing, its access network, and the video format, customizing the user experience and video streaming for that device. This capability also allows for important advertising actions and advanced marketing promotions across multiple screens, allowing users to enjoy viewing content more by offering new purchasing options.
