Portugal Telecom selects Appear Tv to expand its IPTV project
The DC1000 headend is chosen by the Portuguese operator to expand the services of Meo Tv, its IPTV service.
Appear Tv, a global provider of next-generation head-ends for IPTV, and Satcab, a Portuguese systems integrator, today announced that Portugal Telecom has selected the DC1000 head-end as the heart of PT's new next-generation network project. The DC1000 will play an important role in ensuring that Portugal Telecom can offer its customers advanced and exciting television services.
Martin Jahn, CEO of Satcab, commented: "Portugal Telecom requires an advanced next generation network, so it is crucial that each component offers the highest technical specification while meeting all functionality requirements. We have worked hard to find the ideal solution, and after extensive testing, the DC1000 has proven ideal for Portugal Telecom's needs with the highest quality of RF signals. We are pleased to leverage Appear Tv's experience to enable Portugal Telecom to offer its consumers the best quality of television signals.
Portugal Telecom's service, Meo IPTV, is one of the fastest growing IPTV operations in the world. In the two years since its commercial launch in June 2007, the service has already grown to more than 200,000 subscribers. The growth of the Meo IPTV service will continue to be extended by Portugal Telecom into a next generation network. This network, which deploys many advanced technologies, allows Portugal Telecom to offer its customers advanced broadband, IPTV and telephone services.
It is noteworthy that the modularity and flexibility of the Appear TV headend responds to multiple network architectures including the transmission and multiplexing of digital content through IP-based networks, the distribution of television and FM radio and the conversion of digital content for analog networks.
