One of the most anticipated releases of early 2010, 'The Consul of Sodoma' will be released next Friday coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of the death of the poet Jaime Gil de Biedma, on whom the film is based.

It premieres on Friday, January 8, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the death of the poet Jaime Gil de Biedma, The Consul of Sodom, one of the anticipated releases of early 2010. The film is a fascinating journey through the life of Jaime Gil de Biedma (1929-1990), one of the most influential poets of the second half of the 20th century.

His life is the story of a contradiction: on the one hand, he belongs to the upper bourgeoisie and is an executive of an important multinational; On the other hand, he lives his role as a poet and homosexual who rebels against his family and historical environment.

Sex, love, literature and political struggle are the constants of a life that is going through a time of rebellion, violence and discovery. It is also a portrait of Barcelona in the 60s, in which emblematic figures of progressive Catalan culture and society, known as “la Gauche Divine”, parade.

The film is directed by Sigfrid Monleón, and stars Jordi Mollá (Jaime Gil de Biedma), Alex Brendemühl (Juan Marsé), Josep Linuesa (Carlos Barral), Vicky Peña (Jaime's mother), Blanca Suárez (Sandra) and the debutante Bimba Bosé (Bel).

The Consul of Sodom It was filmed in Madrid, Barcelona and Manila (Philippine Islands) with a script based on the biography Jaime Gil de Biedma by Miguel Dalmau, written by Joaquín Górriz, Miguel Angel Fernández and Sigfrid Monleón. It is produced by Andrés Vicente Gómez for Infoco, Trivision, Steinweg Emotion Pictures and Radio Plus. Ximo Pérez, Marco Gómez and Justa Steinweg were in charge of executive production with Javier Ramírez as associate producer and Pepe López Rodero as production director. The photography is the work of José David G. Montero, with Pablo Blanco taking charge of the editing. Antonio Rodriguez has carried out the sound, Antón Laguna the artistic direction and Reyes Abades the special effects.
