The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), through Study Group 6 of the Radiocommunication Sector, publishes the roadmap for the standardized development of the new generation of stereoscopy.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has created a study commission that aims to standardize the future generation of stereoscopy, which will bring new techniques that improve 3D appreciation by the human eye. This new working group has published a roadmap that establishes three stages of development.

The first would correspond to what channels such as the North American ESPN or Discovery or the English Sky are already developing, with the broadcast of an image for each eye whose viewing requires special glasses and that the viewer does not move his head so as not to lose the sensation of depth. According to the ITU, the second phase will involve a visual experience that is much more similar to real life, allowing the viewer to move their head or move in front of the television. Finally, the third phase will reproduce a completely natural visualization thanks to advanced systems for recording the amplitude, frequency and phase of light waves.

According to the ITU, this third generation of stereoscopy would not be a reality for a period of no less than fifteen years, a period during which the working group of the International Telecommunications Union will make its research known, attempting a certain standardization of the technologies used.
