The 3D of 'Avatar' dethrones 'Titanic'
'Avatar', with 1,288 million dollars in revenue worldwide, except for the North American market, surpasses in just six weeks the 1,242 million that 'Titanic' achieved at the box office in 97 and 98. 3D, with the consequent increase in the ticket price, has a lot to say in these spectacular figures.
Pending final official figures, James Cameron's latest blockbuster would have become the highest-grossing film in history, dethroning the director's other major production, Titanic. For now, as confirmed by the distributor 20th Century Fox, Avatar It would be the highest-grossing film in the world, except for the North American market (USA and Canada), in which the film would need, according to previous reports, another two weeks to take the place from the transatlantic film.
After the last weekend, the international collection would have reached 1,288 million, thus exceeding the 1,242 of Titanic. If we included the figures from Box USA, these figures would reach 1,841 million. Last weekend Cameron's film earned $36 million in the United States and $107 million worldwide, completing its sixth consecutive weekend as the leader.
These figures, regardless of inflation, would be due in large part to the extra price that the viewer is paying to see the movie in 3D, thus consolidating stereoscopy as a true source of business beyond the historical anecdote of watching movies with glasses.
