Yes from the European Commission to aid for Spanish cinema
This Wednesday, the European Commission unblocked the Government's aid program for Spanish cinema for an amount of almost 600 million euros.
The uncertainty finally ended this Wednesday for Spanish producers when the European Commission unblocked the aid program for Spanish cinema proposed by the Government. This aid had been paralyzed by the complaint filed by Filmmakers against the Order, a group of filmmakers who believed their interests had been harmed.
The new production and distribution aid program will involve the investment of 576 million euros in a plan that will run until 2015.
The European Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes, welcomed the fact that the State “directs its aid to reinforce the cultural diversity of the films proposed to the Spanish public” ensuring that this aid “will increase the visibility and popularity of independent films in Spain and abroad without infringing” the competition rules.
