Canal Sur in HD, in tests
After TV3, Aragon TV, Telemadrid and 7 Region of Murcia, Andalusian public radio and television joins the high definition experiences by starting a pilot project that will extend in a first phase until March 20. The material broadcast in HD from a Panasonic P2 Mobile DVCPRO HD equipment and a Sony HDCAM VTR is broadcast, for the moment, only for the province of Seville.
Through DTT multiplex 61 with coverage in the province of Seville, RTVA has started a pilot experience of broadcasting in high definition that will last until March 20, in a first phase, and will be extended to other Andalusian provinces. With this experience, Canal Sur joins the HD tests being carried out by other regions such as TV3, Aragon TV, Telemadrid and 7 Region of Murcia.
For this pilot experience, which will most likely last beyond the end of March, Canal Sur is using ViBE encoders from Grass Valley in MPEG4 encoding at 9 Mbps, launching all the material from a Panasonic P2 Mobile device in DVCPRO HD format and a Sony VTR HDCAM. As for audio, the signal at the moment is not 5.1.
For these tests, RTVA is using programming different from its two native channels, composed mainly of documentaries and some special episodes recorded in HD from the children's space. The Southern Band.
