At IBC 2010, Sony Creative Software has unveiled the latest update to its award-winning HE non-linear audio and video editing software, Vegas Pro 10. This application provides audio and video ingest, editing and delivery workflows suitable for a wide variety of professional productions.

New features in the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vegas Pro include powerful editing tools in stereoscopic 3D format. Added to this are other advantages, such as the improvement of the subtitle function, a greater variety of available video effects and the introduction of audio effects, as well as different improvements in workflows and the user interface.

These updates will allow professionals in the audiovisual sector to produce and deliver more attractive content more quickly for television broadcasts, film premieres, distribution of YouTube 3D videos or the preparation of material for DVD and Blu-ray videos.

stereoscopic 3D

Among the new features, this version 1st highlights the possibility of editing in stereoscopic 3D, facilitating the creation of 3D projects thanks to the possibility of importing, adjusting, editing, viewing and exporting projects intended for stereoscopic 3D vision without the need to add more tools or software modules. In addition to being fully compatible with the latest 3D TV technology, it also offers anaglyph viewing, making it possible to preview 3D material on any monitor. Improvements have also been made to the subtitle function, with the ability to preview the subtitles in the preview and crop windows, resulting in greater accuracy and easier editing. Other improvements include the ability to input 21-line subtitles, use HE-SDI format subtitles, and use multiple subtitle file types, as well as the option to export subtitles to Sony DVD Architect, YouTube, RealPlayer, QuickTime, and Windows Media Player.

On the other hand, multicam functions have been expanded since with the new multicamera tools, editing and viewing sessions are simpler and more reliable since they allow you to see the clips from the different cameras and, at the same time, the already edited output in full screen. And for those who want to edit material recorded from the popular DSLRs, Vegas has improved and streamlined this edition.

Vegas 10 will also allow you to group tracks and quickly and easily organize and manage complex projects by grouping related video and audio sections. In this way, a more orderly work environment is obtained.

User interface modifications offer more efficient access to important editing tools, simplifying workflow and improving overall productivity. Regarding image stabilization, it incorporates new stabilization tools that reduce the image vibration or oscillation sometimes produced in handheld recordings.

Vegas Pro 10 now offers a completely new video effects plugin architecture based on the Open Effects Association standard, an open standard created with input from leading visual effects companies. Access to the new architecture is through a software development kit (SDK) that is more powerful and reduces the developer's workload by automating the user interface. This will provide editors with considerably more visual effects for Vegas Pro 10

Also noteworthy is the accelerated AVC encoding on the GPU so that those users who have video cards based on Nvidia's Cuda architecture will now be able to encode Sony's AVC format with greater performance and rendering speed.

Vegas Pro 10 will also be more compatible with other devices from now on. The latter includes HE-SDI adapters, Sony NXCAM cameras and compatibility with a wider variety of DVD recorders and Blu-ray discs. Audio Effects at Event Level: To provide finer control over the placement of audio effects, Vegas Pro 10 allows editors to assign these effects at the master output, bus level, track level, and now event level for more flexibility when working with multitrack projects. b

Finally, note that the new version allows editors to record, mix and monitor audio from external devices, having incorporated practical VU meters and track meters that offer direct information about the signal level on the track and speed up the editing process from recording to mixing.
