Several Colombian TV networks invest in Harman consoles
Radio Televisión Nacional de Colombia, RCN Televisión and Citytv Bogotá have turned to Harman's Studer and Soundcraft mixing solutions to make the transition from analog to digital production.
Three Colombian TV channels - the National Radio Television of Colombia (RTVC), RCN Television y Citytv Bogotá– have recently updated their facilities with Studer OnAir 3000, Studer Vista 5 and Soundcraft VI4 digital consoles from Harman to carry out the transition from analog to digital.
Radio Televisión Nacional de Colombia has three television channels and two radio stations, from which it transmits a wide variety of public service information, news and music programs. RTVC purchased four Studer OnAir 3000 digital consoles for live broadcast and production work. Two of them are used for on-air broadcasting on the National Radio of Colombia and the Radionica radio studios. Another is used in a production studio where programming is recorded for the two radio stations, and a fourth OnAir 3000 serves as a backup console and for routing all audio from the other consoles so that journalists and programmers have access to all the content produced by the radio stations.
Miguel Domínguez, of VCR Ltda., the distributor of Soundcraft and Studer in Colombia, has stated that "there are not many installations in Colombia that are as sophisticated as this one. The system works with 40-bit processing, and all consoles are connected via MADI through redundant CAT7 connections. All consoles are fully integrated, and can be controlled independently or simultaneously."
Domínguez added that "OnAir 3000's flexible configuration options make the transition from analog to digital easier, not only for broadcast engineers, but also for producers and journalists. Audio engineers are impressed with the extensive functionality and signal routing options, while other users with less technical training also find the OnAir 3000 very easy to use, thanks to its 'Touch'n'Action' user interface where the main functions are at your fingertips.”
Very useful for sporting events
For its part, RCN (Radio Cadena Nacional) Televisión, a private Colombian television network that produces a mix of original series, soap operas, news, contests, sporting events and other programs, has installed three Studer Vista 5 digital mixing systems in its two new mobile units for live events and in one of its main live broadcast studios.
Domínguez commented in this regard that "RCN's mobile units are the largest of their kind in Colombia. The two Vista 5 consoles are used primarily for sports broadcasts, including the live broadcast of the recent U-20 World Cup. The third console for the television studio was acquired as a direct result of RCN's satisfactory experience with the Vista 5 mobile units. When they had to purchase a third console, they had no doubt that it was going to be a Vista 5 because of the performance, versatility and ease of use. use contributed to the mobile units.” In addition, RCN TV has three Soundcraft Si3 digital consoles, acquired to broadcast a reality show last year, and one of them was also used for the U-20 World Cup in Bogotá.
Finally, the local network Citytv Bogotá, which broadcasts a mix of entertainment and news, has just purchased a Soundcraft VI4 digital console that has become an integral part of the network's news programs in more ways than one - the console is located just behind the presenter during the Citytv news programs and is visible on television.
Miguel Domínguez has noted that "it is a huge advantage to have the extensive functionality and excellent sound of the Vi4 in a console with such a compact format. It is perfect for the application. The Soundcraft Vi4 is a complete and independent digital mixing console with the patented Vistonics II system with a large color touch screen with a configurable interface that provides easy access to all functions."
