The film by Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal will compete for the Oscar for best animated film. The Mediapro co-production, Midnight in Paris, and the composer Alberto Iglesias, for the soundtrack of 'El topo', will also put a Spanish accent on Hollywood's big night.

For the first time in history, a Spanish animated feature film will compete for the Oscar. Chico&Rita, directed by Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, will compete on the night of February 26 in Los Angeles with Puss in boots, Kung Fu Panda 2 - A Cat in Paris y Range.

The president of the Academy, Tom Sherak and the Oscar-nominated actress for Winter’s Bone Jennifer Lawrence, have also given joy in the presentation of the nominations for the 84th edition of the Oscars to the Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias. This man from San Sebastian has provided music for the film The mole, competing for best original soundtrack.

It is the third time that Iglesias is up for an Oscar. His first nomination came with the film The faithful gardener, in 2005, and the second with kites in the sky, in 2007. Iglesias will go to Los Angeles with a good star since he received the award for best composer last October at the 15th edition of the Hollywood Awards for the soundtracks of the films The skin I live in y The mole.

Alberto Iglesias will compete against one of the greatest musicians in the history of cinema, John Williams (Tintin y War horse), in addition to being in front of Ludovic Bource (The artist) y Howard Shore (Hugo).

Finally, the co-production of the Spanish company Mediapro, Midnight in Paris, directed by Woody Allen, will be up for four awards. In addition to having become Allen's highest-grossing film in the United States (43 million euros in revenue), it is up for the Oscars for best film, direction, original screenplay and best artistic direction. The film recreates the French capital as the epicenter of artistic life, with Hemingway, Dalí, Buñuel and Braque sharing gatherings in the Latin Quarter.

The 84th edition of the Oscars, presented by Billy Cristal, will be held on February 26 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
