Pese a los excelentes pronósticos de la crítica especializada, la película española de animación ‘Chico&Rita’ y el compositor Alberto Iglesias no logran la preciada estatuílla dorada.

In the end, no luck. Spanish animation production Boy and Rita leaves Hollywood empty. The Academy opted for the film Range, by Gore Verbinski, leaving Javier Mariscal and Fernando Trueba, who had attended the ceremony wearing the same tuxedo with which he collected his Oscar for Belle Epoque (1995), with honey on their lips but with the satisfaction of having gone with their Cuban love story much further than they ever imagined.

Composer Alberto Iglesias has not had any luck either and has left without the Oscar for best soundtrack for the film. The Mole.

Two very different productions have been the big winners of the night. On the one hand, the silent experiment of Michel Hazanavicius, with The Artist, and on the other, Martin Scorsese with Hugo's invention.

The French film won the Oscar for best film, best direction, best soundtrack, best costumes and best leading actor for the role of Jean Dujardin. As best leading actress, Meryl Streep has won her third Oscar for The iron lady. Octavia Spencer has won the award for best supporting actress for Maids and ladies and Christopher Plummer for best actor for Beginners.

Hugo's invention, the most nominated, has won the same number of statuettes as The Artist recogiendo premio a la mejor fotografía (Robert Richardson), dirección artística (Alastair Bullock, Ashley Winter, Christian Huband, David Warren, Dimitri Capuani, Luca Tranchino, Martin Foley, Stéphane Cressend, Steve Carter, Stuart Rose), sonido (Adam Horley, Andy Stallabrass, Bret Johnson, Charlotte Gray, Clémence Stoloff, Dash Mason-Malik, George A. Lara, Greg Steele, Greg Zimmerman, Jamie Baker, John Midgley, Marko A. Costanzo, Martin Seeley, Mike Reardon, Philip Stockton, Simon Brown, Steve F.B. Smith, Tom Fleischman) y efectos especiales (Alistair Williams, Andrew Ryan, Craig Narramore, Dean Ford, Hayley J. Williams, James Willis, Jess Lewington, Jonathan Bullock, Jonathan Dunn, Joss Williams, Kevin McTurk, Mark Hutchinson, Martin ‘Marty’ McLaughlin, Noah DePietro, Oliver Guy-Watkins, Patrick Dunn-Baker, Simon Cockren, Steve Knowles).

Woody Allen has won the Oscar for best original screenplay for his film Midnight in Paris (produced by Mediapro) and Alexander Payne for best adapted screenplay for The descendants.
