Media Links connects Euro 2012 with its MD8000 encoders
Media Links MD8000 encoders, selected by UEFA for contribution to Euro 2012.
This year's UEFA Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine is taking place in stadiums as far apart as Donetsk in eastern Ukraine and Gdansk on the Baltic Sea in Poland. All stadiums are linked to the International Broadcasting Center in Warsaw with encoding systems Media Links MD8000.
The fiber links deployed together with those operated by Telecom Polska and UkrTelecom allow the eight stadiums to be connected to the IBC from where the audio and video signal is sent to millions of viewers around the world.
The MD8000 encoder is particularly suitable for this type of application, offering high levels of redundancy to address external issues such as fiber link losses, as well as very low latency to allow operators to work without the inconvenience of delays.
Daniel Marion, head of ICT at UEFA, commented that “this is the second time that UEFA has used Media Links technology, and our previous experience had been so good that there was no doubt that we would use it again for 2012. The quality of the signals is second to none, and the use of the MD8000 gives us greater flexibility.”
