The design of the microphones allows the user to use them traditionally on the lapel of a jacket, for example, or as a special feature of the new ECM-FT5 series, use them under clothing, thus making them completely invisible.

Sony, which already has a wide variety of lapel microphones for different applications and markets, has now added three new “flat” models to its portfolio.

The new ECM-FT5 series features three models. The ECM-FT5BMP is designed to work with their cost-effective UWP microphone series with a mini connector and can also be used with all wireless receivers that use this type of connector.

The ECM-FT5BC is designed to interface with the Sony DWX series of high-end digital wireless systems and the industry standard 800 series wireless systems. The line-up is completed with the ECM-FT5 which is a wired lavalier.

The design of the microphones allows the user to use them traditionally on the lapel of a jacket, for example, or as a feature of the ECM-FT5 series to use them under clothing thus making them completely invisible. The microphone's flat design also lends itself to use with musical instruments as well.

The ECM-FT5 series features an omnidirectional capsule. As with all Sony lavaliere microphones it presents excellent tonal quality. Additionally, the ECM-FT5 series is made of metal to ensure durability and to protect the microphone from RF noise induction. Additionally, the microphone screen has also been designed to repel moisture from the body. The microphones are equipped with a traditional tie clip and also include a strap mount that allows them to be secured under clothing.
