Canon announces the new BU-47H pan-tilt at IBC
This solution, successor to the Canon BU-46H, is capable of producing broadcast quality images, full HD video and with an image stabilization function and a robust construction. It is ideal for outdoor use under the most extreme conditions.
Canon has announced at IBC 2012 the new BU-47H, a remote control pan-tilt camera head. Like its predecessor, the Canon BU-46H, this new head is dedicated to reproducing high-quality, high-resolution images. However, with an extensive upgrade to the camera's features, including highly calibrated video adjustment functions that mesh cleanly with user preferences and filming applications, the camera has been tailored to the broadcast market.
Capable of producing broadcast quality images, full HD video and with image stabilization functionality and a robust construction, this solution is ideal for outdoor use under the most extreme conditions.
The new Canon BU-47H provides full HD (1920x1080) through three CMOS sensors and a total of 2.37 megapixels. The Canon HD zoom lens offers 18x optical zoom and wide-angle AF from 7.4mm to 134mm telephoto (2/3" equivalent) and a focus range of 4.1 to 73.8mm. A minimum subject brightness of 0.08 lux1 allows you to shoot at brightness levels equivalent to moonlight (0.5 to 1 lux).
The professional will be able to establish highly calibrated video and image quality settings, calibrating them using the OP button. A new feature offers alternative adjustment via an ECU function (OP-450/U-4 protocol only) including: gamma, black gamma, master pedestal, knee, mount, clipping 100%, sharpness level, horizontal band of sharpness, HV sharpness balance, sharpness limits, sharpness selection, knee aperture, brightness-adapted sharpness, coring level, brightness-adapted coring, noise reduction, image details skin, selective noise reduction, low key saturation, color matrix, color grain, tonality, white balance and color correction.
The camera's compact size and low weight (approximately 17 kg) allows it to be installed in virtually any location, providing easy portability for outdoor production.
A whole universe of solutions for cinema
Canon has expanded its EOS Cine system with the official launch of its 4K Cine camera and two compact zoom lenses, increasing the range of EOS Cine lenses. Originally announced in April 2012, the EOS C500, CN-E 15.5-47mm T2.8 L S/SP and CN-E 30-105mm T2.8 L S/SP join the new EOS C100 and EOS C300 to create the most complete Canon range to date, offering extraordinary quality and performance, in different configurations.
With the new EOS C100 entry-level camera and the EOS C500 4K, the system has grown to meet the production demands of users of all levels. Additionally, Canon's new cinema zoom lenses provide excellent value and performance in EF and PL variants, ensuring compatibility with virtually any camera currently used in productions. All of these new products will be exhibited at IBC 2012, the first time the complete EOS Cinema System can be seen in Europe.
In addition to 4K recording, the EOS C500 supports 12-bit or 10-bit RGB 4:4:4 output signals for 2K (2,048 x 1,080 pixels) or off-board Full HD recording, to deliver rich colors and extensive support for image processing such as chroma key positioning.
The camera also offers recording speeds of up to 120p in 4K and 2K modes, providing greater creative flexibility for high-speed (slow motion) video recording. The inclusion of Canon Log Gamma provides high-quality video and wider exposure latitude, as demanded by professional filmmakers.
Based on the same advanced platform as the EOS C300, the EOS C500 offers exceptional performance, incredible mobility and extraordinary expandability. The availability of the PL mount variant makes it compatible with industry-standard lenses, while the EF mount model is the first Cine EOS camera to feature a modified EF mount with Cine Lock. Designed with user feedback in mind, the EF Mount with Cine Lock has been designed to make it easier to change lenses while recording. Instead of the user having to rotate the lens, the new mount rotates to lock the lens in position, making for easier handling during recording, both in the studio and on location.
New compact zoom lenses
The arrival of the new EF Cine lenses further expands the EOS Cine System. Each of them has been designed to offer excellent performance and mobility, as well as a very competitive price. The CN-E 15.5-47mm T2.8 L S wide-angle cinema zoom lens is launched alongside the CN-E 30-105mm T2.8 L S telephoto cinema zoom lens, both available for EF and PL mount. Both offer sufficient resolution for 4K production, making them ideal for use with the Canon EOS C500 and EOS-1D C cinema cameras, which also support 4K video recording.
The new lenses are compatible with Super 35 mm cameras, common in the sector. In addition, its advanced optical technology offers great flexibility to allow its use in a wide range of situations. Each of the lenses features a compact, lightweight body with a wide focal range, making them ideal for handheld shooting, while a variety of design improvements have been made to suit the way users work, such as a common front diameter, standard dimensions of the mechanisms and a 300-degree travel path for precise focus adjustments. A perfect complement to the existing excellent cinema and EF Cine fixed focal zoom lenses, these new compact zoom lenses offer a wide range of creative possibilities for all film and video professionals, whether shooting in the studio or on location.
EOS C100
Canon's EOS Cinema System also expands with the launch of the new EOS C100, a compact and versatile professional interchangeable lens camcorder designed for independent videographers.
Based on the principles and features of the acclaimed EOS C300, this new model combines an extensive list of specifications with a series of new automatic functions, making it ideal for professionals shooting alone, without the help of a team of people, or for EOS videographers new to the EOS Cine system.
Featuring the 8.3-megapixel Canon Super 35mm CMOS sensor with Bayer filter, the EOS C100 combines exceptional image quality with a design that is approximately 15% smaller than the advanced EOS C300. The camera's powerful imaging system enables the same processing power as three-chip RGB systems, offers exceptional color, wide dynamic range and very good low-light performance, while its full NLE compatibility makes it ideal for a wide range of users and production projects. Thanks to its Canon EF mount, users have immediate access to more than 60 high-end EF lenses, as well as the opportunity to experiment with the ever-expanding range of EF Cine lenses.
