TVE includes HbbTV in its satellite broadcasts for Europe

Users of the Europa International Channel and RTVE's 24h Channel will be able to have A la Carta content on their television, in addition to the direct satellite signal. In one year, RTVE.ES has created 3 different applications on HbbTV, in a decisive commitment to this standard by launching it on both DTT and satellite

Users who receive the Spanish International Television Channel and the 24h Channel of the Europe platform, in addition to the current television signals, will be able to access the contents of the A la Carta application through their connected television.

RTVE is in a constant process of evolution and technological improvement of the signals it broadcasts to its users, which include those from satellite platforms. For this reason, starting this summer, the 24h and TVE Internacional channels on RTVE's Europe platform incorporate the Hbb-TV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) functionality, which allows you to access RTVE.ES A la Carte programming from your connected television. This improvement in the service has been the result of collaboration between the Interactive Media and Technological Planning areas of RTVE.

This innovative system represents an important added value for users, since it gives them the possibility of accessing the entire content offering of RTVE.ES A la carte: more than 70,000 complete television programs. To do this, it is necessary that the television with satellite reception or the receiver external to the television include this new functionality and that the user has an Internet connection on their television or receiver. Its use is very simple and intuitive.

This launch complements the applications that since last July 2011, the date in which RTVE developed the first HbbTV pilot in Spain, have been developed for DTT users: RTVE.ES A la Carta, Eurovision and JJ.OO. With this launch in its satellite broadcasts, the RTVE Corporation continues its key commitment to this standard and thus places itself at the technological forefront of the new interactive television along with other European countries, such as France, Germany, etc.

To access the contents of RTVE.ES A la Carta you just have to press the red button on the remote control of our television or Hbb receiver and then navigate on the television with the remote control. Simply select the desired option to watch television in a different way and access the largest service in the Spanish-speaking world. The enormous audiovisual content treasured by RTVE has more than 70,000 complete television programs and series, which increases every week with 700 new broadcasts.

With this new service, the audience is offered a new way of interacting with broadcasters, by offering à la carte content, participation and interactivity with the topics associated with the RTVE brand.

The HbbTV standard is promoted by the main European public television stations, among which is RTVE. With the launch on the Europe platform, RTVE is committed to this standard by complementing those that were pioneered with Hbb on the DTT channels (La1, La2, 24h, Teledeporte and TVE-HD) in July of last year.

For a few years now, RTVE has given new impetus to TVE's presence in the rest of the world and has included improvements. In the specific case of Europe, this Hbb functionality is added to the widescreen broadcasts that were launched a few months ago on both TV channels. The quality of the Classical Radio channel broadcast on this platform was also significantly improved to get the most out of this classical music channel.
