Mediaset begins the first broadcasts in tests with HbbTv
This is a first technical phase in which the compatibility bases will be laid to standardize access to this technology. Once this stage is completed, the offer will be enriched by increasing the content, incorporating complete navigability and extending broadcasts to all the group's channels.
News, fiction series and entertainment programs will be the first Internet Connected Television content using HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) technology, which last weekend saw the light of day in the broadcasts of Mediaset España in a technological project developed together with Telefónica, thus becoming the pioneer companies in the implementation of HbbTV in Spain.
With the aim of enriching the programming of the group's different channels, providing the value of combined interactivity, Telecinco News 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.; series episodes Pirates, angel or demon, crazy life y The one that is coming; short-movie websodes Interns y del reality Couples and residents in Malaguita and the spaces The Ferris Wheel y beyond life will begin to be broadcast through this system, which allows the user to access additional information on the Internet about what is being broadcast at that moment and social networks, all through the television screen itself.
This pilot project, open to all interested agents in the Spanish audiovisual sector, begins with a first phase to lay the foundations of compatibility with television manufacturers and standardize access to this new technology that combines the broadcast signal and broadband for television viewing.
Once this stage is completed, Mediaset España and Telefónica will enrich the offer by increasing the content, improving and completing Internet navigability and exporting the model to the rest of the group's channels, through Telefónica's OTT (Over the Top) environments currently available, such as Imagenio, MoviStar Videoclub and Terra TV.
Technical specifications
Supported by the EBU (European Bradcast Union), the HbbTV standard is based on three standards: CE-HTML, the Open IPTV Forum browser profile and DVB signaling and transport.
In the immediate future, users who have a set-top-box or television with the HbbTV standard will be able to have this added value offer, adapted to new television consumption.
Last May, Mediaset España and Telefónica signed an agreement to launch the first tests in Internet Connected Television, an alliance proposed under demanding time frames to obtain as soon as possible the definition of standards and reference technologies, the discovery of key interactive services, the definition of the necessary capabilities for the execution of the service and the promotion of the park of compatible devices through manufacturers to, in a next phase, explore the options in the business models that open up with this new capacity. spatio-temporal communion of television and internet.
