‘Rise of the Guardians’, sixth feature film of 2012 with Dolby Atmos sound
'Rise of the Guardians' is the latest feature film to use this new cinema sound technology and demonstrates the enormous momentum that Dolby innovation is having in Hollywood. This is the sixth title of 2012 that features this immersive sound technology.

Furthermore, apart from the upcoming release announced by Warner Bros., The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 14, 2012), said production company has already confirmed that two of its releases planned for 2013 (Gravity y Pacific Rim) will also have the sound mixed in Dolby Atmos.
These three films join the growing list of Hollywood titles that use Dolby Atmos, such as Brave (Indomable) (Disney/Pixar), Revenge: Istanbul Connection, Chasing Mavericks y life of pi (Twentieth Century Fox), así como The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Warner Bros.).

Renowned sound mixing technician Jim Bolt and Oscar-winning sound mixing technician Andy Nelson, under the supervision of Oscar-winning sound editor Richard King, have been in charge of developing the Dolby Atmos mix of this soundtrack that aims to allow the public to enjoy a new level of realism.

Support for Dolby Atmos
Stuart Bowling, Senior Technical Director of Film Marketing at Dolby Laboratories, acknowledges that “we have seen incredible support for Dolby Atmos and we are excited that DreamWorks Animation is the fourth Hollywood studio to adopt this format with The origin of the guardians, our sixth Dolby Atmos film of 2012. The list of Dolby Atmos titles planned for 2013 continues to grow with two major Warner Bros. releases confirmed, such as Gravity y Pacific Rim. We hope to expand the use of Dolby Atmos technology among production companies, as our goal is to reach around 15 titles in 2013.
Those responsible for carrying out the mixing of Gravity (2013, release date TBD) feature Oscar-winning sound mixing technician Skip Lievsay in collaboration with sound mixing technician Niv Adiri. Oscar nominee Glenn Freemantle will be the editor and sound designer overseeing the Dolby Atmos mix.
In charge of the Dolby Atmos mix of Pacific Rim (scheduled for release in July 2013) will feature Oscar-winning sound technicians John T. Reitz and Greg Rudloff, accompanying Tim LeBlanc. Scott Gershin will be the sound editor overseeing the mix.
On the other hand, note that Dolby's objective is to have between 80 and 100 screens for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Dolby plans to install around 30-50 screens in the first quarter of 2013 and expects to have up to 1,000 locations supporting Dolby Atmos by the end of next year.
