Sony launches the world's first 4K mobile unit with multiple cameras for Telegenic
The unit features HDC-2500R and F55 cameras, an MVS-8000X switcher (handling Quad Full HD signals), Miranda 8500 Series 4K UHDTV arrays, and Sony PVM-300 4K LCD monitors to complete a reliable 4K production pipeline.
After years of relationship, Telegenic has chosen again Sony to design and build one of the world's first 4K-ready mobile units. Capable of capturing live images in HD or 4K format, this next-generation vehicle provides a bespoke solution that will open new horizons in television production and pave the way for the future of imaging. The unit will be used in the coming months in a series of high-profile events.
Mark Grinyer, head of business development for 4D, 3K and sports productions at Sony, talks about the importance of the news: "One of Sony's main missions is to innovate in the field of entertainment. For the last eight years, we have been pioneers of new technological solutions and, with this latest announcement, we are preparing to unleash the potential of 4K in live productions. We have been collaborating with Telegenic for years to create vehicles and solutions that transform live production and provide viewers with viewers incredible experiences. Today's news represents an important milestone for the future of 4K and live broadcasts, and we are enormously pleased to take another step further into the world beyond HD.”
The vehicle is the result of expertise and collaboration jointly developed by Sony and Telegenic, and will offer new solutions to handle the difficulties that arise when broadcasting live in 4K format. It will be able to capture material in HD or 4K, allowing it to handle two formats in the same unit, all with Sony's current product portfolio.
This includes the HDC-2500R cameras, which will be used to capture HD content, and the F55 35mm cameras for 4K content. At the forefront of the solution is the company's MVS-8000X video switcher, which handles QFHD (Quad Full HD) signals as a single video source, matrixes Miranda 8500 Series 4K UHDTV and three Sony PVM-300 4K LCD monitors to complete a reliable 4K production pipeline. The technical equipment of the vehicle is completed with an Apollo 5.1 sound table. Calrec.
A long relationship
Sony has a long relationship with Telegenic, with whom it has built six mobile units in the last eight years. These trucks have been used to broadcast some of the world's biggest live shows and sporting events in HD and 3D, ranging from the World Cup to the Champions League final.
Peter Bates, CEO of Telegenic, said: "Sony and Telegenic make continuous efforts to revolutionize the live production process and, together, we have broken new ground to introduce new formats to the market, first with HD, then with 3D and now with 4K. This latest collaboration, aimed at making 4K productions a reality, heralds a new era of television that, in turn, will transform the world of entertainment as we know it. The breadth and depth of knowledge Sony puts them in a unique position to ensure that every device in the production pipeline will have the functions and features necessary for 4K broadcast.”
