Quantel sQ Enterprise, sQ View and sQ Edit and QTube solutions streamline news and sports workflow at Rogers Communications' new broadcast center in Montreal.

Rogers Communications has acquired the sQ Enterprise news and sports production system from Quantel in view of the expansion of its facilities in Montreal from where it provides service to the Quebec region in Canada.
Rogers is launching a new production center that it hopes to have fully operational next August.

The new center will serve the production of BT (Breakfast Television) a morning magazine that airs from 6 to 9 every day. In this way, the production of this magazine from Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary, Saskatchewan and Edmonton will be complemented. On the other hand, Rogers also plans to add an hour of sports to its programming, with special emphasis on local sports.

Frank Bruno, vice president of Engineering at Rogers, acknowledges that "the demands of a three-hour live television news program are truly daunting. We already have Enterprise sQ systems in other locations across the country, so we know that Quantel's workflow will enable us to complete jobs on time even under the most extreme pressure. QTube also plays an important role in our production workflow, allowing our journalists and editors to view and share multimedia files across all of our newsrooms. Hence the choice of Quantel for the downtown Montreal has been a pretty easy decision for us.”

The system installed in Montreal includes 200 hours of HD storage. File ingestion is managed by two sQ Load applications, with scheduling and video recording with sQ Record, and playout under control of sQ Play, all Quantel solutions.

Journalists and producers can review and edit all stored material, including live feed, through around twenty sQ View desktop applications, fully integrated with the system. Autocue Newsroom Computer System and Ross Overdrive Automation Ross Video. Craft editing is carried out from three stations with sQ Edit, also integrated with the NRCS. Four QTube Browsers connect journalists and editors with all the media wherever they are.

Ray Cross, CEO of Quantel, has been pleased that Rogers is expanding its relationship with the British company since "we maintain a very close relationship, based on trust and mutual understanding. Rogers has been a key partner in helping to further develop sQ Enterprise and a pioneer in benefiting from the connected workflows that QTube brings."
