Canadian Rogers Media, first QTube client
The Canadian broadcaster chooses the IP technology workflow developed by Quantel to have a truly global, delocalized workflow.
Rogers Media, one of Canada's largest media companies, has opted for QTube from Quantel for its Sportsnet, OMNI and CityTv services. QTube will be used to break down geographic barriers by linking Rogers Media's headquarters with different production centers in Canada so editors can browse and edit media from anywhere.
Frank Bruno, Vice President of Engineering at Rogers Media, has justified the choice for QTube since "it eliminates the geographical limits of when and where we can create content. This allows us to cover breaking news and sporting events in a way that until now we could not even imagine. QTube gives us great access capacity and interconnecting our sQ systems through economical and easily accessible network connectivity."
Bruno has further assured that "QTube's intuitive interface and scalability align perfectly with our growing production needs. Its elegant and simple Quantel execution is based on a truly innovative combination of COTS hardware, with Quantel know-how to produce a solution that helps us change the way our business is organized."
Ray Cross, CEO of Quantel, added that "this first installation of QTube reveals that there is nothing like this technology in the world. It uses highly innovative techniques and exclusive Quantel technologies to solve fundamental business challenges. It allows our customers to access media around the world as if it were in their own office. Our customers can truly harness the power of the Internet and their own networks for ingestion and editing for the first time."
Quantel launched QTube last NAB. It allows fast and flexible workflows, being able to interconnect countries, continents and even the entire world. QTube makes media assets securely accessible with frame-accurate editing from anywhere. The Quantel Virtual File System (QVFS) provides instant access to content through Microsoft Smooth Streaming technology, which enables the transmission of materials over HTTP.
Norway's TV2 migrates to HD with Quantel
The Norwegian private broadcaster TV2 has chosen Quantel's Enterprise sQ technology to carry out its high definition migration in a file-based environment. The installation is being carried out by AVIT Systems.
TV2 has two production centers in Bergen and Oslo. News and sports are two very important pillars in its programming, with channels dedicated exclusively to these areas 24 hours a day.
All of its news and sports programming has been produced with sQ systems in both production centers since 2006 when TV2 made the leap to tapeless production with Quantel. TV2 operates on an innovative shared workflow between the Bergen and Oslo hubs.
John Inge Brattetveit, TV2 Director of Operations and Technical Services, highlighted that "we are very happy with the performance and ease of use of our current Quantel system. TV2 has experienced a period of expansion over the last five years with the launch of new channels and the purchase of new sports rights, and thanks to the Quantel system it has been possible to absorb the additional production pressure this expansion has caused with a minimal increase in production staff. A key issue here is the close integration of Quantel, between editing tools and speed to go on air.”
