Canada's Rogers Sportsnet doubles its Enterprise sQ systems
The sports broadcaster's massive system now supports a total of 72 ingest ports, 56 output ports and 350 editing stations.
Leading Canadian sports broadcaster Rogers Sportsnet has doubled the size of its rapid editing systems Quantel Enterprise sQ in order to assume the increase in demand in the workflow after acquiring the exclusive national rights to cover the NHL National Hockey League for the next 12 years.
Sportsnet has four regional channels, in addition to the Canadian channels Sportsnet One and Sportsnet World.
The Quantel system, installed at Rogers' headquarters in downtown Toronto, also covers baseball, basketball, football and soccer.
The massive system now supports a total of 72 ingest ports, 56 output ports and 350 editing stations. The heart of the system is capable of storing up to 7,500 hours on sQ servers. Sportsnet has also expanded its workflow system with QTube, which allows its editors from anywhere in the world to access and edit content stored on its Enterprise sQ system at its headquarters in Toronto.
Frank Bruno, Vice President of Engineering at Rogers Media, acknowledges that "Quantel was able to maintain our workflows for rapid airtime, doubling the size of the system and delivering the entire project in time for our launch date. The onair system was built, installed, tested and commissioned in just one month, thanks to the careful planning of the Sportsnet and Quantel team."
