Abertis Telecom is preparing the massive launch starting in the second half of this year of the massive hybrid DTT service under the HbbTv (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) standard, which will allow viewers to enjoy the interactive content offered by television networks over the Internet without stopping tuning into the DTT channel.

The HbbTv technological solution allows, through a link transmitted along with the rest of the DTT content, to access a website specifically designed to be consumed together with DTT on a television. This opens the doors to the viewer to a wide range of services ranging from on-demand television, participation in surveys or contests and additional information independent or totally linked to the broadcast.

Lately, Abertis has been working together with broadcasters and television receiver manufacturers to verify the improvement of compatibility and interoperability between existing connected television applications and receivers capable of receiving HbbTv content.

These tests have demonstrated the latest advances in the technology of the hybrid DTT standard, guaranteeing the quality of the service offered and its correct operation, which opens the possibility of starting the mass launch of the product in Spain in the coming months, during the second half of the year. The tests have been carried out in the Abertis Telecom interoperability laboratory, equipped with signal generation and equipment testing systems that have allowed in the same laboratory to verify the correct functioning of its current models, as well as upcoming developments, with the applications of Spanish broadcasters.
