Nagra JoinIn

Nagra has introduced at IBC 2013 JoinIn, a new concept of connected home in which content can be exchanged on all screens in a secure and flexible way.

JoinIn is an open reference architecture that allows service providers to monetize the connected home, enabling a wide variety of content in different viewing scenarios.
Leverages open standards and best-in-class technologies to ensure secure interoperability between devices throughout the connected home.

With JonIn, Nagra aims to help service providers enrich their subscriber offering and make their platform even more profitable, enabling a wide variety of home scenarios connected with a streaming gateway that allows content to be delivered to multiple devices in the home, as well as having PVR functionality on all of them and carrying out content sharing in a cloud environment.

Vivek Khemka, Vice President of Product Management at Dish Network, admits that "Customers now expect to view content via satellite and IP on all types of screens such as TVs, tablets and mobile devices. And they want the ability to watch their favorite content anytime, anywhere. Nagra's JonIn architecture allows us to offer exactly that, while helping to maintain strong security across all platforms. Any service provider looking to implement connected home solutions will benefit from this framework of solutions."

On the other hand, Philippe Le May, CTO of Numericable France, understands that "addressing the challenges of the connected home has become a priority for most service providers around the world. The JoinIn architecture is a positive initiative for the digital television ecosystem, as it defines a standards-based approach to address key issues such as content protection and interoperability of media delivery devices and content sharing in a multi-screen environment."

Created to seamlessly ensure full interoperability in a secure connected home environment, JoinIn comprehensively addresses key challenges around device discovery, service discovery, content delivery and content protection throughout the connected home.

Nagra's proposal integrates a broad set of technologies, protocols and open industry standards, such as DLNA and UPnP, as well as HTML5 to efficiently provide a consistent user experience across multiple screens. What's more, JonIn leverages best-in-class conditional access and digital rights management technologies to ensure a connected and secure home.
