HBO confirms that the new season of 'Game of Thrones' will be filmed in Seville
The capital of Seville and Osuna will host the filming of some of the sequences of the new season of the popular series.
After the continuous rumors of recent days, the North American HBO has confirmed that it has chosen the province of Seville to film some of the episodes of the new season of the series Games of Thrones.
The recording of the series based on the saga song of ice and fire by George R.R. Martin has, as HBO has highlighted, the full collaboration of the Andalusia Film Commission, the Seville Film Office, the mayor of Seville, Juan Ignacio Zoido, and the Osuna Film Office, where part of the recordings are expected to take place.
The filming will be an important boost for the Andalusian audiovisual industry. The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalusia, Luciano Alonso, has described it as “extraordinarily important” that Andalusia is the scene of a “successful” series like this one, which will highlight Andalusian heritage.
The Reales ALcázares of Seville are one of the enclaves in the Seville capital that the HBO professionals in charge of the locations are already considering.
Filming will also take place in Osuna in historic buildings such as the University or the Collegiate Church.
For the Andalusia Film Commission, this project "could be the largest that Andalusia hosts, above any other film or production that we have attended to."
Spain thus becomes the seventh country where the popular series is filmed. Outside of the main studios in Belfast (Northern Ireland), the series team has recorded scenes in Croatia, Iceland, Morocco, Malta and the United States.
