Everything under control with VSM on the impressive ARD ‘Tagesschau’ set
The L-S-B Broadcast system allows centralized control of video and audio matrices and interfaces, IMD and UMD, automation, servers and tally.
The new study of the German ARD news programs has marked a before and after for its versatility and spectacularity. The Tagesschau news set has an impressive 18 meter wide video wall on which videos and graphics are projected in real time during the broadcast of each news program.
A key component of this set, one of the most advanced in Europe, is the VSM control system of L-S-B Broadcast Technologies since it assumes control of numerous tasks during the broadcast. VSM is the centralized control system that governs video and audio arrays and interfaces, IMD and UMD, automation, servers as well as tally. The system was installed and configured on site by MCI Hamburg.
This studio consists of a large set and two controls from which VSM controls all the signals that go to the video wall, mixes on-air and tally, in addition to allowing control of the audio and video matrices. The VSM also controls the entire alternate transport signal in the event of critical equipment failure. VSM controls, in fact, the redundancy switching between the two control rooms.
Each room has a matrix Evertz (288×288 frames). The facility has 130 Penta displays (switching input and screen saver on/off control via VSM), as well as 24 multi-displays, whose UMD and IMD are controlled by the VSM.
In terms of video, the VSM system also controls a mixer Sony MVS 7000 in each control room with access and control of tally, tags or auxiliary bus routing.
In terms of audio, VSM also controls Stagetec Nexus matrices and mixers with direct access to the adjustment parameters of the DSP equalizers, microphone input and switching crossover points through the Gadget Server 5 that is incorporated into the VSM system. The Lynx modular system is also connected via VSM and all frame synchronizer or audio delay parameters are also managed from this system.
The vLayer feature of the VSM allows Mosart automation to have full control access to the video arrays. Management of active resources within the system is carried out through VSM and communicated to the three Mosart automation systems. VSM is also used for layout design and labeling of the 24 multi-displays.
