After the success of The orphanage y Impossible, Juan Antonio Bayona closes a trilogy dedicated to mother-son relationships wrapped in mystery and intensity impregnated with the abyss of death. Telecinco Cinemas is finalizing this fantastic drama based on the novel by Patrick Ness these days at the Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya complex in Terrassa. A monster calls.

A Monster Comes to See Me was filmed the first three weeks of September in Manchester (United Kingdom), and the subsequent twelve in Terrassa.

On the four sets of the Parc Audiovisual de Terrassa, with 3,500 m², the homes and all the Victorian-style rooms of the mother and grandmother, a hospital room and the backyard of Conor's home, on the outskirts of Manchester, have been recreated.

The film stars a twelve-year-old boy who faces his mother's terminal illness and receives a visit from a gigantic 12-meter being who tells him three stories that aim to solve what the child cannot handle in reality.

This enormous being is played by Liam Neeson, who shares the headline with Sigourney Weaver (as the little boy's grandmother), Felicity Jones (the mother) and the newcomer Lewis MacDougall, on whom the story of the film weighs in the first person.

Neeson's role is precisely one of the most complex since to recreate the enormous twelve-meter-high yew tree, it was necessary to use performance capture techniques based on the actor's movements.

According to Bayona, the film is located at an "intermediate point between the real story of The Impossible and the world of the fantasy genre, already very present in The Orphanage. The latter touches on fantasy in a more open and more realistic way than the first."

“I loved it Impossible, and seeing a director who works with such detail made me admire him," Sigourney Weaver has commented. Regarding the project, "I was initially interested in the fact that Bayona was directing it. I consider him a creator of films, more than a director, of which there are few in the industry.”

"The public also asks for these stories, in addition to those of superheroes running in tights. They are an opportunity for European producers," highlighted Ghislain Barrois, CEO of Telecinco Cinema.

Coinciding with the filming of his new film, Bayona has taken the opportunity to demand tax relief to attract filming to Spain. "I always try to film here. We have to make more productions here to develop the industry. There can be a very profitable industry. The proof is in the films we have made," confesses the director.

A Monster Comes to Verne, which has a budget of 25 million euros, is scheduled for release in the fall of 2016. It is produced by Telecinco Cinema with the participation of Participant Media, RiverRoad Entertainment and Lionsgate.
