'A monster comes to see me', best Spanish premiere of the year
More than half a million spectators have seen Juan Antonio Bayona's film in its first weekend, exceeding 40% of the box office share after reaching 3.7 million euros in revenue.
After its release in theaters this weekend, A monster comes to see me, the new film by Juan Antonio Bayona, has risen to number 1 at the box office with an estimated collection of 3,715,310 euros and 552,143 spectators in its first days of screening, which represents more than 40% of the film market share. The film, released in 365 cinemas and 639 screens, has achieved an estimated average of 10,179 euros and 5,814 euros, respectively.
The film starring Felicity Jones, Lewis MacDougall, Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson, in the role of the monster, has managed to thrill Spanish viewers, who did not want to miss the film event of the year.
After passing through the Toronto, San Sebastián, London and Sitges Festivals, the film begins its journey in the US, where this Wednesday it will have a special screening at the American Cinemateque in Los Angeles, which will feature the presence of Juan Antonio Bayona and will be presented by director Sam Raimi.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Patrick Ness, which was selected as the best novel of the year for young people in the United Kingdom. It tells the story of Conor, a 12-year-old boy who tries to cope with his mother's illness with the help of a monster that comes to visit him at night.
A Monster Comes to See Me, released in Spain by Universal Pictures International Spain, is a co-production by Apaches Entertainment in association with Telecinco Cinema and Movies La Trini and with the participation of Mediaset España and Movistar+. The film also has the participation of Participant Media, RiverRoad Entertainment and Lionsgate.
