Coinciding with NAB 2015, Ovid has announced that its assisted video solution Smart Assist has officially become the new partner of /i Technology, technology developed by Cooke Lenses which allows reading the metadata of the lens in each frame and transmitting it to post-production digitally.

The /i technology was designed and created by Cooke, but other lens manufacturers such as Canon or Angenieux also allow you to read all the information on the lens. Smart Assist is able to read metadata from lenses and cameras with /i technology, allowing for accurate replay of any shot, as well as VFX integration. The lens metadata includes focus, iris, zoom lens type and even the serial number.

Smart Assist is an Ovide development based on the QTake HD software, which provides the technical team with a powerful tool for viewing filming material in a compact 22” system.

Until now, QTake HD required bulky computers in tower format, capture cards, monitors, converters,... Smart Assist hardware allows all this equipment to be reduced without reducing the functions necessary for a shoot one bit.

Now, Smart Assist incorporates Qtake Server, a collaborative metadata system for use on set on both iPad and iPhone. Integrated into Smart Assist provides instant review of each shot. This immediate access to rolling stock is the key to accurate and efficient annotation by any department that can supply valuable data in a production workflow. In addition to local use on set, the system offers cloud access for sending XML data.
