The popular “all-in-one” video assistance device has been renewed and is now capable of recording, playing back and viewing effects with a 4K camera or 4 HD cameras.

Ovide Smart Assist 4 at NAB 2016

Presented for the first time at the last IBC, at this NAB 2016, Ovid launches its new Smart Assist. The popular “all-in-one” video assistance device has been renewed and is now capable of recording, playing back and viewing effects with a 4K camera or 4 HD cameras.

Ovide Smart Assist 4 allows you to work in quad-camera mode with 2K or HD resolution (configured in 4 inputs, 12 outputs and 12 routed 2K/HD SDI outputs) or with a single 4K camera (1 4K input, 3 routed 4K SDI outputs and 1 composite output).

The new Smart Assist is equipped with 12 routed SDI outputs to choose 12 independent video signals including multi viewers. To facilitate the task of connecting each device, the equipment has small OLED screens that indicate which of the outputs is.

The new Smart Assist has a new 22" (1920x1080px) screen that is much more precise. It has better image quality and is brighter. As with other options, you can choose the finish: matte to avoid reflections or a special finish for sunny environments, which allows you to see and read better.

Connectivity

As for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, with the new SMA connectors it is possible to choose the Wi-Fi antennas that best suit the shooting and location, but in addition, the Ovide Smart Assist 4 is equipped with a Bluetooth antenna for other “wireless” functions.

This video assistance system, which is increasingly used by more production companies around the world, allows you to stream video or playback to iPhones and iPads regardless of what Smart Assist or the rest of the connected devices do. It also allows you to convert these devices into a “remote control” and operate your Smart Assist remotely.

With large productions in mind, Ovide Smart Assist 4 allows you to shoot with up to 4 HD (or 2K) cameras simultaneously, but for those unique shots that need to be perfect the first time, there is the option to connect up to 128 cameras and control them all at once with a single click. To do this, it would be enough to connect 8 Ovide Smart Assist 4 with Quad Spits.

Finally, note that Smart Assist can be powered by alternating current, ground batteries or camera batteries with a Hot Swap system. The latest version is equipped with an internal UPS system that warns when all power supplies are exhausted, remaining on for 2 minutes so as not to lose the work done.

Smart Assist is currently being used in the spin-of Fear The Walking Dead, and has previously been used in productions such as Ben Hur, All I see is you, Juliet, Zoolander 2, Specter: Mission Impossible o Avengers: Age of Ultron.
