Dolby Vision Laser Projector wins Prism Award
The result of the collaboration of Dolby, Christie and Necsel, this projector wins an award in the displays and illumination category of the Prism Awards 2016, which distinguishes the best optics and photonics products.
Among the winners of the 2016 Prism Awards, organized by SPIE to recognize the best and most innovative products in the field of optics and photonics, the Dolby Vision laser projection system stands out in the displays and lighting category, the result of the joint work of Dolby, Christie and Necsel.
The Dolby Vision projection system uses state-of-the-art optics and image processing at the service of high dynamic range technology with enhanced color that also offers a contrast ratio that far surpasses other technologies in the sector. The result is a much richer and more detailed viewing experience that translates into vivid, realistic images that immerse the viewer in the world recreated on the screen.
Doug Darrow, senior vice president of Cinema Business Group, Dolby Laboratories, does not hide his satisfaction when he acknowledges that "it is a great honor for Dolby to receive this display and lighting award at the Prism Awards 2016, as it recognizes the scientific and technological excellence and the enormous preparation of the Dolby, Christie and Necsel teams that have participated in the project. Our mission has always focused on contributing to the advancement of the science of vision and sound with technologies that increase the attractive power of entertainment creations. And that's precisely what the Dolby Vision laser projection system, an integral part of Dolby Cinema, does by allowing filmmakers' creations to come to life on the screen.
For her part, Jennifer Smith, executive vice president of Global Market Solutions at Christie, congratulated “our partner Dolby and Necsel, our laser device supplier partner, for the collaboration of our three companies that has led to the design of a unique projection system that has materialized in Christie 4K laser projection heads, customizable and with HDR (high dynamic range) capability.”
Smith adds, “Combined with Christie's modular 6P laser light sources, the new technology delivers the high-contrast, ultra-bright images for which Dolby Vision is renowned, the visual expression of Dolby Cinema, a superior cinematic offering that combines spectacular picture and sound technologies in an inspiring design that makes every visit to the theater a fascinating cinematic event.”
Finally, Greg Niven, vice president of sales and marketing at Necsel, notes that “we have been working closely with Christie on their laser projection program for many years, and we are proud to be part of this pioneering solution in cinema projection technology.”
