Sapec celebrates the Panorama Award for the best technology in broadcasting and distribution

The Panorama Awards bring together the entire industry in a unique night. The massive participation of Panorama Audiovisual readers, who chose the shortlist for each of the thirteen categories, and a jury made up of prominent professionals from the sector in a secret vote before a Notary are two of the ingredients that have made these awards the most important in the industry.

Avantos Technology

Based on the ITU-H.265 (HEVC) compression standard, Avantos allows video contribution users to improve video quality, or reduce the required bitrate by up to 50 percent. With the new version, AVANTOS solutions support the Main 422 (8/10-bit) profile for HEVC compression and offer new features for delivering video with less than a second end-to-end latency.

The award-winning version of the Avantos line features up to four products: the VHE5210 encoder and VHD5210 decoder for HD video, and the VSE5210 encoder and VSD5210 decoder for SD video. With support for HEVC, systems are capable of delivering bandwidth savings between 35 – 50% compared to the previous generation H.264 standard. This allows users to deliver better video quality for the same bit rate or to reduce the bandwidth required to maintain the current video quality with a significant reduction in the operating costs of their contributions/links.

The new Avantos encoders and decoders have been available since early 2016. Existing Avantos customers will have the option to upgrade their systems remotely through a firmware download and licensing.

The Avantos family will continue to evolve towards UHD, and at BIT2016 the first professional UHD decoder was presented supporting HEVC with professional profiles (Main422) for contribution of Ultra High Definition signals.

The Panorama Award was collected by Sapec engineers, responsible for the design of Avantos, Adolfo Martínez and Antonio José Sanchez, who did not hide their emotion and thanked all the voters, the jury and Panorama Audiovisual for this important award.

The second edition of the Panorama Awards brought together more than 500 professionals at Feria de Madrid who enjoyed a unique show in which the emotion of the winners, the sensuality of live music and a spectacular staging marked the great night of the audiovisual sector.

Despite their short history, these awards have become an outstanding tool to energize the sector by promoting organizations to make better use of technology to be competitive, as well as to recognize the most innovative projects and productions.
