Hispasat has reached an agreement with the electronics and home appliance distribution chain, Worten, to distribute its Ultra High Definition channel via Hispasat 4K satellite on televisions of this format displayed in its stores. The initiative, which began with a pilot test carried out in the new establishment that Worten opened this month in Ávila, will be implemented in the coming months in new stores in the chain.

Thanks to this agreement, Hispasat further opens the scope of its push for Ultra High Definition by offering the public the possibility of seeing first-hand the great leap in quality that this technology represents compared to high definition television. In addition, they will also be able to verify the high performance of satellite distribution, which is destined to be the ideal medium for the transmission of 4K content thanks to its high bandwidth.

Hispasat 4KFor its part, Worten, in its objective of offering its customers the most innovative technology and the greatest advantages, provides higher quality television in its stores in a pioneering way. Worten Ávila, a nearby and urban space, located in the Las Moruchas Shopping Center, has been the first store to adopt this technology, which will be incorporated into Worten spaces throughout Spain.

Ultra High Definition television multiplies by four the number of pixels of a traditional high definition screen. In this way, the resolution is four times higher than high definition and provides image sharpness much higher than conventional ones. The power of Hispasat satellites allows the transmission of these contents thanks to their design oriented towards DTH (direct to home) services.

The operator has supported the development and implementation of Ultra High Definition from the beginning in order to be able to make it available to film and television viewers as soon as possible. It was the first satellite operator to carry out an Ultra High Definition transmission in Latin America through its Hispasat 30W-3 satellite and, since September 2013, it has broadcast its Hispasat 4K channel free-to-air in Europe, made available to the industry to promote the use of this technology. Hispasat 4K has also been available for North and Central America since April 2014, and is planned to be broadcast in Latin America in the future. Likewise, last year it held the first edition of the Hispasat 4K International Festival, one of the first competitions in the world dedicated entirely to short films recorded and post-produced in this format, and last April it opened the call for its second edition.
