The 83rd session of the DVB Board of Directors has appointed the representative of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Peter MacAvock, as the new president of the consortium. MacAvock will take over from Phil Laven, who has been president since 2008.

Peter MacAvock fue director ejecutivo del DVB durante 14 años antes de ocupar su posición actual al frente de los servicios y plataformas de distribución en EBU Technology & Innovation.

MacAvock assumes his new role at a decisive moment for DVB in the face of the challenge of developing Ultra High Definition and adjacent issues such as HDR, HFR or the new generation of immersive audio. Other issues that will have to be faced are the emergence of virtual reality or future transmission systems. With the growing importance of OTT, hybrid television and other delivery methods, the environment is changing for DVB, so the consortium is keenly aware of the need to adapt to the new challenges the television industry is currently facing.

DVB remains the focal point for the technical development of core systems used by millions of people around the world to enjoy television. The DVB works towards the standardization of a set of technologies that meets the demands of a constantly changing industry, integrating all stakeholders and decision makers in the industry.

Peter MacAvock has acknowledged that the presidency of the DVB "is a great honor. We must stop and reflect on the successes of the past to prepare for an exciting future: a great challenge in today's ever-changing environment."

Phil Laven, former technical director of the European Broadcasting Union, has been at the helm of DVB for the last few years, during which time, among other achievements, he oversaw the introduction of DVB-T2, which has been key in bringing high definition services to millions of people on five continents.
