Leyard and Planar show eye-catching display solutions for television studios at IBC
Leyard and Planar attend IBC for the first time after their merger under the same stand in which LED video walls and LCD displays go hand in hand, configuring an extensive portfolio of proposals.
After purchasing Planar on the part of Leyard, IBC 2016 was the first time in Europe in which both companies exhibited in a single space in which LED displays and cabinets coexist as a sample of an extensive catalog of solutions.
For studio broadcast applications, Leyard has an interesting range with a pixel pitch of 1.2, 1.6 and 1.8 mm. In this case, the TWA/TW series are already being used in numerous television sets around the world since they support an LED video wall configuration with a very fine pitch and an assembly technology that reduces the space between the different 54" cabinets to a minimum. In addition, they have been designed to achieve maximum energy efficiency and minimum heat emission.
Another line optimized for studios is the TVH (available in 1.6, 1.9 and 2.5 mm.) with 19.5” LED cabinets.
As an example of the performance of these series in TV studios, it is worth noting that NBC Olympics installed two video walls for the coverage of the Rio Games, one of them made up of 169 LED screens (TVH Series) and another of 56 displays, both with a pixel separation of 1.9 m. and ultra high resolution graphics.
For the outdoor set, NBC opted to install an LED video wall made up of 108 screens from this same series, with a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm.
Of note, Leyard TVH allows image tuning to achieve broadcast-specific color temperatures and gamma levels with greater precision, as it is designed to produce deeper blacks, higher contrast and less camera reflection.
At Leyard's stand at this IBC, a curved LED surface made up of modules from the CarbonLight CLA series also attracted attention. Available in 1.5 and 1.9 mm, its design allows you to create curves with a small radius (concave, convex or wave-shaped) or angles from 45 to 90º.
Another of the solutions that can play the most on a set to surprise the viewer are transparent OLED screens. These allow presenters or objects to be placed behind them, creating a striking effect.
In terms of display, Planar offers numerous glass and touch options. At IBC we can see, for example, a video wall made up of MX55HDX panels with a separation bezel of just 1.6mm and a source and remote control away from the surface.
On the other hand, the EP series in 50, 58 and 65” are 4K LCD screens that include an SDI slot, facilitating their installation in studios or production controls.
