Enrique Iznaola launches into directing with a documentary where he thoroughly investigates the figure of the filmmaker Miguel Picazo. Miguel Picazo, an extramural filmmaker tells us about the figure of Picazo through a young student who discovers in an outdoor screening in a small town in Jaén Aunt Tula. Dazzled by this masterpiece, she decides to investigate its author and the reasons for his limited filmography. In the course of this process you will learn first-hand the keys to this unique director and investigate a generation that set the standards for contemporary Spanish cinema. The story of Miguel Picazo is, at its core, a history of Spanish cinema.

Miguel Picazo, an extramural filmmaker It will be submitted to the competition within the DOC section. Spain that will open in the next edition of Seminci, Valladolid International Film Week 2016, which will be held between October 22 and 29.

This film goes beyond paying homage to an essential filmmaker of the so-called New Spanish Cinema to propose a journey through 20 key years of Spanish cinematography and society through his life and work. Between 1964 and 1985, the years that separate Aunt Tula of Extramural, Spanish cinema experienced great expectations and disappointments. His work, dispersed between film and television, is the perfect thread to understand and value that time from the perspective that the present gives us.

Produced by Jose Antonio Hergueta (MLK ​​Producciones) and with music by Antonio Meliveo, the documentary features: Carlos Saura, Mario Camus, Víctor Erice, Josefina Molina, Carmelo Romero, Fernando Lara, Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, Julio Diamante, Mercedes Sampietro, Eduardo Noriega, Diego Galán, Imanol Uribe, Fernando Trueba, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Carlos Suárez, Luis Sanchez Enciso, Enriqueta Carballeira, José Miguel Hernán, Cecilia Bartolomé and Salvador García Ruiz.

The protagonist is Ana Saura who makes her debut on the screen with this film that has the support of ICAA, the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Andalusia, TVE and the Provincial Council of Jaén.

Enrique Iznaola has highlighted that with this documentary “we are really looking at Miguel Picazo's latest project, since he was involved from the moment I proposed it to him. In the unpublished interview I conducted with him, he talks about his passion for cinema and his desire to direct. This work demonstrates that his legacy has marked a generation of filmmakers, and is also a tribute to his person, a tribute to a generation.”

For his part, producer José Antonio Hergueta points out that “like other Spanish filmmakers, of my generation and before, I also had Miguel Picazo as a teacher. Beyond his ability to envelop us with his stories and films, he composed a life as a narrator on the screen and off it, also on television. With this documentary we want to bring him closer to the current public, unaware of how brave Picazo was in anticipating risky topics and approaches in those years of censorship, to the point of affecting his career.

Enrique Iznaola, director and co-writer of the documentary, is a cultural manager and film critic, member of the Film Academy and the Association of Audiovisual Festivals of Andalusia (ASFAAN), an association that he presides. Winner of the 2012 González Sinde Academy Award for his career as a director of different festivals, he has received numerous awards for his film publications from the Jaén Provincial Council, including several scripts by Miguel Picazo and the exhibition on the 50th anniversary of Aunt Tula. He is currently the best expert on Picazo's work and the custodian of his archives.
