GoPro withdraws its new Karma drone from sale
The company requests the immediate withdrawal of the units sold since in certain circumstances the drone can lose power in mid-flight and fall uncontrollably.
GoPro took advantage of the information whirlwind of the American election night to announce that it will immediately withdraw all sold units of its new Karma drone.
The first drone from the company specialized in action cameras was launched on the market at the end of last October, with sales estimated at 2,500 devices since then.
The company bases the decision to withdraw this drone with a folding structure from the market on detecting that, under certain circumstances, a sudden loss of energy occurred in mid-flight that caused the device to suddenly fall.
Although GoPro acknowledges that this circumstance has not caused injuries or property damage, it does not specify exactly how many of the 2,500 drones could be affected by the problem.
Nicholas Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro, has assured that "safety is our top priority. We are working in close coordination with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers and we are taking all necessary measures to make the return process as simple as possible."
Despite this setback, the company is willing to put the Karma drone back on sale as soon as the problems are resolved.
Without a doubt, this is a strong blow for the manufacturer that intended with this launch to overcome the negative figures of the last year while facing its competitor DJI.
