The VideoReferee system, whose service was provided by Broadcast Solutions, was used in both the final, semi-final and quarterfinals.

The XXV Men's Handball World Championship, held in France between January 11 and 29 under the organization of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the French Handball Federation, had a video assistance system for referees.

The VideoReferee system, serviced by Broadcast Solutions, was used in both the final, semi-final and quarterfinals.

With around twenty channels, this solution offered referees as many viewing angles as ever before. VideoReferee had access to eight feeds from system-specific cameras located directly on the field and at the goals. Since the host broadcaster during the final used more cameras as originally planned (including a flying camera) these signals were also incorporated so that they were available to the referees.

Ramón Gallego, member of PRC and responsible for the system during the championship, has been very satisfied with the use of VideoReferee: "the system was used to clarify doubtful scenes on more than twenty occasions, working very reliably. For the IHF, the use of VideoReferee was very important to help the referees and to ensure a fair competition. We are ready to listen to Broadcast Solutions' proposals to improve our work."

Lars Geipel, referee at the Basketball World Cup in France, recognizes that the system is a great help "when making the right decision at critical moments in certain plays. It is important, however, to use the video assistant responsibly, without abusing it and in very decisive situations."
