Silvio Berlusconi and Rupert Murdoch could announce an agreement in the coming weeks for the purchase and sale of Mediaset Premium.

According to the Italian newspaper specialized in economic information Il Sol 24 Ore, Mediaset and Sky have intensified negotiations in recent weeks to take control of the Mediaset Premium payment platform.

The newspaper states that the audiovisual group in Milan, owned by Silvio Berlusconi, and News Corp, owned by Rupert Murdoch, owner of Sky Italia, could announce an agreement in the coming weeks. This operation, after failing to reach an agreement with the French company Vivendi, would be part of Mediaset's strategy of making its pay channels available to third-party operators and the premium platform available to all interested content producers. However, it would mean a significant concentration of the audiovisual business in the transalpine market, with the implications that this would have for the owners of commercial rights.
